Beginning in Maun, we skirt the southern edge of the Okavango Delta en route to Guma Lagoon, gateway to a magical two-day mokoro expedition deep into the Delta’s reed-lined channels and remote islands. Camping out beneath the stars on a secluded swamp island is a true highlight — an authentic wilderness experience surrounded by the sounds of wild Africa.
The route then follows the Okavango River into Namibia’s Caprivi/Zambezi Region, pausing at the quirky riverside atmosphere of Ngepi Camp before continuing into the remarkable wetlands of Nkasa Rupara National Park. This vast, untamed floodplain ecosystem offers a slower, deeper safari experience, with elephants, buffalo, predators and prolific birdlife moving freely through one of southern Africa’s least-visited wilderness areas.
Crossing back into Botswana, we enter Chobe National Park, famed for its immense elephant herds and spectacular riverfront game viewing. A private sunset cruise on the Chobe River brings encounters with swimming elephants, crocodiles and abundant birdlife before the adventure continues to Zimbabwe and the legendary Victoria Falls — where the roar of “The Smoke That Thunders”, vibrant local culture, and a host of optional adventure activities create one of Africa’s most energetic and unforgettable stops.
From Victoria Falls, the journey heads south into the remote western reaches of Hwange National Park for three days of immersive safari exploration. Vast basalt plains, productive waterholes, buffalo herds and excellent predator viewing define this wild and rewarding region, where game drives follow the rhythms of the landscape through some of Zimbabwe’s finest wildlife country.
The final chapter returns to Botswana via Elephant Sands, where elephants wander freely through camp to drink at the waterhole only metres away. From there, we continue to the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans at Nata, where immense salt flats, open horizons and extraordinary sunsets provide a fitting finale to a journey shaped by rivers, wetlands, wildlife and the timeless spirit of wild Africa.
