The adventure begins in Windhoek, where vehicles and supplies are collected before the route heads north. After an overnight camp, the journey continues into Etosha National Park, celebrated for its abundant wildlife and the possibility of spotting rhino and cheetah.
Turning eastward, we camp at Kaisosi River Lodge, followed by two days spent exploring the Cubango River region. Travellers can choose between two camps: one centred on game viewing and fishing, and another offering a more laid-back atmosphere with shaded areas, a quirky bar, and a crocodile-safe pool. From there, the route leads into the Caprivi Strip and onward to the Kwando River area, where the choice again lies between a wild, unfenced camp reached via deep sand, or a relaxed riverside retreat offering river-based game viewing. Both are known for fishing.
Continuing east, we cross into Botswana at Ngoma Border Post before arriving at the next overnight camp on the Chobe River, renowned for abundant wildlife and spectacular sunsets. The following two camp days are based at Chobe Safari Lodge, with river cruises, game drives, and unforgettable views of swimming elephants all on offer. This is a treat, and creature comforts at the lodge are well worth the indulgence!
The final leg heads south to an overnight stop at Elephant Sands Camp, where a year-round waterhole attracts elephants in impressive numbers. This is followed by a choice to visit either Nxai Pan or Makgadikgadi Pans National Parks for the last two nights.
These bring their own character, offering: a chance of seeing seasonal migrations of zebra and flamingo’ or meerkat dens on foot, or visiting Baines baobabs and walking with bushmen.
The journey concludes in Maun, with hired vehicles returned and time either to catch an onward flight or to restock for the next stage of the adventure.
With the Okavango Delta now on the doorstep, one of our Guided Wild feature tours may be tempting! Until next time!
